Ever wonder what's going on with the the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) during all this? Here's interesting item:

BUREAU OF LAND MANAGMENT

Compiled by Albert Hartman

The BLM employs a man by the name of Dave Wolf here in Las Vegas. Mr. Wolf recently sent a letter to OUTDOOR RESORTS OF AMERICA (the developer). In that letter of June 4, 1997, addressed to the Planning Commission, he wrote the following:

"...I support your proposal as an appropriate and logical use of the intersection of Highways 159 and 160. I look forward to continuing our discussions as this proposal materializes and hope that the Planning Commission and County Commissioners also lend their support and approval. Please use this letter as a reference and indication of my support with the County if it will assist you in your efforts.

Sincerely,
David Wolf Conservation Area Manager"

It should be noted that Mr. Wolf did not "copy" any of his superiors, but the letter was printed on the stationary of the United States Department of the Interior.

The fact is that the "Planning Commissioners" above all, Ms. Fiero, were so enthusiastic about this so-called "BLM recommendation" that they approved the controversial application with only one exception (Mr. Trumbo). The Commissioners based their "YES"votes mainly on this BLM letter.

When notified of this, Mr. Michael F. Dwyer [David Wolf's superior] wrote on June 20, 1997: "... it is inappropriate for the Bureau of Land Managment (BLM) to be offering a formal endorsement of the proposal.... "

To make the BLM story more controversial, please read what Mr. Dave Wolf had to say at the end of a letter, addressed to "Dear Concerned Citizen", dated June 24, 1996 -- just a year ago:

"...As a practical matter, since most of the camping customers are rock climbers, a campground in this area would tend to increase traffic on SR 159 and 160 and past Blue Diamond significantly, as these climbers travelled back and forth between the Scenic Drive and the camping area if so located." [emphasis added]

This "public servant", Mr. Wolf, should explain please, what made him now change his mind and support the interests of Out-of-State Developers, but not the interests of the Concerned Citizens of the Area.
