To: Clark County Commissioners
I am a Volunteer Docent at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, established after Fletcher Jones & Murphy were denied permission by Clark County to carry through their intention of building condominiums in the Red Rock Canyon. I believe this was the right decision by the Clark County Commission, which helped to maintain the pristine quality pf the Red Rock Canyon, and permitted the establishment by the State of Nevada of Spring Mountain Ranch State Park.
I understand that presently a land developer is proposing a similar but much larger development consisting of a community of over 20,000 residents, with the apparent approval of the BLM, and also is asking for a 4-lane highway to access this community.
As docents in the park we time and again hear expressions of admiration from the visitors, nationwide and from many foreign countries, praising the local authorities for their vision in permitting Red Rock Canyon, Canyon, only a stonethrow from Las Vegas, to continue to develop undisturbed by human intrusion.
The new proposals would spell the end of the Red Rock Canyon as a tourist destination. You are, of course, aware of the fact that tourism is the main source of income in the State of Nevada and Clark County. I feel that no further residential or commercial construction should be permitted on land in the canyon, whether or not presently managed by the BLM.
