To Whom This May Concern,

I am writing to you because I feel strongly against the Laing Home proposal. My name is Tammy Silver and I work at CCSN. I have been speaking with the Director of Public Affairs, who gave me some ideas on how to combat this. Perhaps some of these ideas have already been taken into account, but I'd like to make them known so that hopefully this information will get passed along to the Red Rock Citizen Advisory Council.

The suggestion was to gain as many allies as possible. Some of the people mentioned were:

  • Don Kemp, President of the Foundation of the Las Vegas Performing Arts Center
  • Former State Senator Tom Hickey
  • Mary Manning, an environmental reporter Las Vegas Sun
  • Find out from the State Contractors Board if Laing Homes has any weaknesses or complaints against them
  • Find out what the BLM is going to base the land swap agreement on (what specifically in the study), and is there going to be an environmental impact study? (I was told that the environmental impact study takes money and time and if it could be made mandatory to have it would prolong and give more time to get opposition against.)
  • I also have names of instructors and scientists at CCSN who I will contact and ask if they would prepare something and present on the 18th of Sept.

Needless to say, I can not do all this myself and am asking for those on the council to assist. I will be going to area bike stores during my lunch hour today (as I'm an avid cyclist) to pass out information, letters and a petition. I will collect petitions for the meeting of the 28th as well as for the 18th.

Please contact me to discuss this in more detail at 651-5823.
Tam
