-0700 (PDT) To the Editor: The proposed development of the beautiful Red Rock area is nothing short of the raping of mother nature. Unfortunately, Las Vegas developers are well known for this sort of crime. What do you expect, when you live in a city where greed comes before concern for the environment. Several years ago State Senator Dinah Titus had a great idea. She wanted to put a "Ring around the Valley", but the interests of the casinos, developers, and builders won, and the idea of putting an urban growth boundary around the city died. Places like Portland, Oregon have such urban growth boundaries. Go visit Portland. It is a beautiful city, and has remained so over the past several decades because of this boundary. But here in Las Vegas, that concept has not found acceptance; too many people say they have too much money to lose and will lose too many opportunities to make more money. Hey, that's what this city is all about, isn't it?? Forget the fact that real people live here and want to find beauty in their home. Until the values of the people in positions of power, that is, our elected reps and casino officials, finally realize that the city will some day be nothing but miles of ugly, littered, crime ridden concrete, developers will get their way. Fight on, Red Rock neighbors!! Lisa Stiller
