The "Save the Canyon" Campaign has the official endorsement of the Sierra Club. The position of the Sierra Club toward Blue Diamond Hill has always been that this land should be safeguarded as a transitional zone bordering the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The BLM brochure of Red Rock Canyon refers to it as "A Jewel in the Desert," stating that it offers some of the best examples of Mojave Desert habitat to be found in the West. The massive housing development proposed by Laing Homes is totally unacceptable as it would have a disastrous impact on Red Rock, aesthetically and environmentally. This is not just a threat to the little village of Blue Diamond. It is an assault on a national treasure - Red Rock National Conservation Area. Sandra K. Finley, |
